Dipamkara is the master of Sakyamuni and one of the Buddhas of the past. When he was born, the surroundings were so bright as if the place were lighted up, hence having the name Dipamkara, which literally means “lighting up lanterns”. This statue presents an image of meditating Dipamkara who has downward-looking eyes, serene countenance, and solemn and graceful posture, with his hands in the mudra of meditation. The upper part of his kasaya features concise and smooth gathers, and the draping hem resembles a gurgling brook, echoing and mingling with the halo of the Buddha. The flawless statue is a perfect manifestation of harmonious bright light.
